Campaign of Matthew Crowley Calls Out Alleged Violation of Florida Election Law
Winter Haven, FL — Recent campaign finance filings show that a political action committee (PAC) chaired by City Commission candidate Chad Davis allegedly made a $1,000 contribution to his own campaign, a move that appears to violate Florida election law.
Under Florida Statute §106.08(5), no person may make a contribution “through or in the name of another,” and §106.19(1)(a) makes it a first-degree misdemeanor to knowingly make or accept such a contribution. Because the PAC is chaired and controlled by Davis, the donation may constitute an illegal self-contribution through another entity.
“This is exactly what people are tired of, politicians blurring ethical lines and playing games with campaign money,” said Matthew Crowley, candidate for Winter Haven City Commission, Seat 4. “Winter Haven deserves honesty and accountability, not backroom self-dealing.”
Crowley added, “I’ve run this campaign with full transparency and respect for the law. The people of Winter Haven deserve leaders who do the same.”
The Crowley campaign has called for a formal review by the Florida Elections Commission to determine whether Davis’s PAC contribution violates state election statutes.
